Global Youth Service Day is the largest youth service event in the world!

​

April is nationally recognized by the Youth Services Association as a month of service in which youth engaged in service projects. While many organizations participate by hosting a service project on or around Global Youth Service Day, the MCYC celebrates by turning it into a month-long commitment to serving our community. MCYC, with support from the Youth Services Bureau of Monroe County, invites all Monroe County teens to be a part of GYSD.​​

Throughout the year, our members plan service projects and implement them throughout the month of April, creating opportunities for youth to make a lasting impact on the community. Each of our subcommittees organizes projects centered around different causes and interests, allowing our members to serve in meaningful and diverse ways.

2026 Service Projects​

For 2026, we had three service projects throughout the week of April 11-17:​​

​

Community Engagement: Pickleball Coaching and Tournament

Join the Community Engagement subcommittee as a volunteer or a participant for this Pickleball Coaching and Tournament. From 10 am - 12 pm there will be Pickleball 101, which will be for beginners and will include a Social Open Play. From 1 pm - 3 pm, the Co-ed Double Tournament will happen.

Entry Fees: Youth will be $10 and adults will be $20

Combined Event: Donate & Decorate / STEM-Up Science / The Art of Being Seen
Join the environment subcommittee in decorating bins for their upcycling project. Join the Education Subcommittee to help kids learn about STEM through exciting science experiments. Join the Mental Health Subcommittee to help participants reflect on how mental illness impacts yourself, your friends, and your community.​

Policy & Advocacy: Youth Employment Readiness Survey
The goal of the survey is to assess youth employment and workforce readiness so that the Monroe County Youth Council can use it to collect data anonymously. Our survey aims to determine whether students experience burnout as a result of managing both schoolwork and employment, thereby assessing the correlation between these activities and mental health. ​
