Global Youth Service Day
Global Youth Service Day is the largest youth service event in the world!
Monroe County Youth Council, with support from the Youth Services Bureau of Monroe County, invites all Monroe County teens to be a part of GYSD every April.

2025 Service Projects
For 2025, we had three service projects throughout the week of April 21:

FOOD FOR ALL: Earth Day Gardening with Hoosier Hills Food Bank
MCYC members and other youth volunteered at the Hoosier Hills Food Bank Community Garden to get their hands in the dirt, build a garden that will feed our neighbors, and learn about how growing food locally connects to addressing poverty!

A SAFE ENVIRONMENT: Clear Creek Cleanup with City of Bloomington Utilities
MCYC youth and the City of Bloomington Utilities Department collaborated to learn and grow skills through caring for local water systems. They, then, cleaned up pollutants in Clear Creek, one of Monroe County's central waterways!

A STRONG COMMUNITY: Know Your Rights & Refugee Letter-Writing
MCYC youth met at the downtown library for the GYSW capstone event: a two-part learning and service session. First, they received training on how to understand and defend our rights during interactions with law enforcement. Second, the youth wrote welcoming letters to our refugee neighbors!
