ABOUT MCYC

OUR MISSION:

Monroe County Youth Council provides leadership opportunities to all Monroe County high school students through advocacy, community collaboration, and service.

Empowering Youth Voice in Monroe County

We believe in the power of youth voices to create real change. Through MCYC, students from all backgrounds work together to identify needs in their community, collaborate with local organizations, and amplify youth perspectives in local government and public service.

Founded through the Youth Services Bureau of Monroe County (YSB), MCYC works in partnership with local schools, nonprofits and government agencies to support positive youth development.

What We Do

During the year, MCYC members grow their leadership skills, learning through MCYC curriculum and planning service projects. Each month, members learn about a new topic that guides them in planning their service projects. Topics covered include: community engagement, action planning, project management, strategies of advertising, and event planning.

Starting with community engagement, members partner with a community organization to solve a problem and engage their peers. They continue working with this community partner as they plan the project, engaging with these topics throughout the year. Then, in April, they facilitate their projects during Global Youth Service Month. Outside of these projects, members also engage in volunteer opportunities throughout the year and attend community events such as MCCOY Youth at the Statehouse Day.
