Frequently Asked Questions

How do I join the council and participate in decisionmaking?

Monroe County Youth Council is a group of youth from high schools across Monroe County who guide the focus and structure of MCYC activities, keep MCYC up-to-date on the goings-on at different schools, and take on their own projects. You can learn more about joining MCYC here.

What adults are involved with MCYC?

What is Global Youth Service Day?

Global Youth Service Day is an annual event organized by Youth Service America, where youth around the world join forces to serve their communities. MCYC has the joy of organizing many of Monroe County's GYSD events each year. In 2024, we planned a Global Youth Service Week in order to avoid conflicting with prom festivities at our local high schools. Check out the GYSD page to learn more, and follow MCYC social media so you can be the first to learn about new GYSD plans!

MCYC is run under the umbrella of the Youth Services Bureau of Monroe County. YSB has been a part of the Monroe County Government's network of services for youth since its establishment in 1972. YSB runs many other programs to impact local youth, including an emergency shelter for 10-17 year-olds, free community-based counseling for youth, the Safe Place program for three counties, a wide spectrum of community trainings, and the annual Monroe County Childhood Conditions Summit
